According to the Public Relations of Razi Institute, Dr. Mostaf Aghaei, Head of National Center for Genetic Resources (NCGR), considered the standardization of gene banks as the governmental duty of National Center for Genetic Resources and said: Most of the genetic resources used in the agricultural sector are kept in some of the research centers working under the Ministry of Agriculture Jahad.
While referring to some valuable genetic resources in Razi Institute, he said: Razi Institute has been able to support its genetic resources and eradicate some human and animal diseases.
He added: "Due to the high importance of gene banks, sufficient care should be taken in documenting these sources based on existing standards or standards that will be added later in such a way that the gene banks that will be built in the future can be created based on the same standards.
He considered the establishment of backup for genetic resources as one of the responsibilities of NCGR and noted: Razi Institute has its own biobank which shows that our research institutes are qualified enough to do so, but if these important sources do not have backup, all the research and production activities of these institutes will be jeopardized and it will bring irreparable consequences for the country.
Establishment of a copy of gene banks available at the research institutes with the aim of preserving the genes and seeds is necessary. He also talked about the establishment of a facility on genetic
resources and added: "This system will soon be created in the areas of animal, aquatics, livestock, poultry, plant, forest and other resources.
Thanks to the available genetic backup at Razi Institute, RVSRI is a leading and pioneering figure in the eradication and control of some human and livestock diseases.
