On Saturday, July 29th, 2023, the Head of the Regional Delegation of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Iran visited the Razi Vaccine and Serum Research Institute and met with Dr. Ali Es-haghi, Director General of the Razi Institute, and Dr. Touraj Valinasab, Director General of the Office for Academic Relations and International Affairs of the Ministry of Agriculture- Jahad.
According to the public relations report of Razi Institute, Dr. Yubak Dhoj GC, Head of FAO Country Office in Iran, visited Razi Institute on Saturday 29 July 2023. During this visit, Dr. Ali Es-haghi, Director General of Razi Institute, presented a brief introduction of Razi Institute and added: "Veterinary research is one of the duties of Razi Institute and regarding Iran's needs for some veterinary vaccines Razi Institute experts and specialists provide the required vaccines through their consistent research.
Dr. Es-haghi added: "All Razi Institute's products in fields of human, livestock, and poultry vaccines are the results of medical and veterinary research at Razi Institute and many of Iran's medical and veterinary vaccine needs are supplied with Razi Institute". He also recalled that the main mission of Razi Institute is to protect the health and hygiene of humans, livestock and poultry and said, "About 3.5 billion doses of livestock and poultry vaccines are produced in Razi Institute and used domestically.
Dr. Tooraj Valinasab, Director General of the Academic Relations and International Affairs Office of AREEO, requested the cooperation of the FAO Regional Office to introduce the capabilities and transfer the knowledge and technology of the Razi Institute to the neighboring region and countries. He also stated, "One of the main goals of the office of Academic Relations and International Affairs of AREEO is to expand communication with international organizations, especially the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, and the presence of Dr. Dhoj is a great opportunity to develop international relations with this organization".
According to Dr. Valinassab "attracting financial support and expertise from FAO for some important projects of AREEO" are the objectives of the invitation of Dr. Dhoj, and added: "During the meetings it was decided that the Regional Office of FAO in Thailand will assign one of the CTP projects to the AREEO organization in 2024 and provide expert and financial support to one of the AREEO projects.
He also called for the development of cooperation with the FAO office in Iran and stated: "We expect that this office will invite FAO researchers and other international researchers to travel to Iran ".
Defining joint projects according to Razi Institute and FAO's capacities, informing Razi Institute about FAO's training courses, equipping specialized laboratories and establishing links with world reference laboratories, using FAO's training and technical assistance, holding specialized periodic courses in the field of vaccines and biological products, holding joint international workshops were among the objectives of this visit.
At the end, all participants and guests visited the Museum of Razi Institute.
