Razi Institute Held a Technical Session with WHO Delegates in Geneva

Geneva, December 10, 2024- Razi Institute held a pivotal meeting with delegates from the World Health Organization (WHO) on Tuesday, November 10, in conjunction with fifth session of the Working Group on the Strengthening of the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC). This session aimed to tackle urgent public health issues and foster deeper collaboration between Razi Institute and WHO.

The session included distinguished participants such as Dr. Yukiko Nakatani, WHO Assistant Director-General for Access to Medicines and Health Products; Mr. Deus Mubangizi, head of the Prequalification Unit in the Regulation & Prequalification Department; and Ms. Saeedeh Ejtehadi and Mr. Ebrahim Alikhani, both representing the Permanent Mission of the I.R. of Iran at the UN (in person). Also participating were Dr. Ali Es-haghi, Director General of Razi Institute, and Dr. Rainak Ghaderi, head of Academic Relations and International Affairs at the Institute. Additionally, senior officials from Razi Institute, including Dr. Seyed Reza Banihashemi, Head of R&D, Dr. Masoud Ghader, Deputy of Quality Assurance, and Mrs Zohre Zareh Tooranposhti expert of specialized international organizations, were present at this important event.

During the session, the head of Academic Relations and International Affairs at Razi Institute reviewed collaborative activities conducted in 2024 with WHO and expressed gratitude to WHO for the opportunities provided to Razi Institute’s scientists and researchers. Key discussions included plans for a two-day online seminar in partnership with WHO, focusing on the "Snakes Antivenom on 17-18 February 2025, mRNA technology transfer, and updates on the Regional Immunization Technical Advisory Group (RITAG) vaccinology courses which will be hosted by Razi Institute". The meeting also highlighted Razi Institute's capabilities in manufacturing recombinant vaccines and its readiness to do more cooperation.

Both Razi Institute and WHO delegates expressed their satisfaction with the outcomes of the online meeting, reaffirming their commitment to expanding collaboration in the future.
